Jesus is central to all of Christianity. Because of this, it is important to have an understanding of Who He is. A lot of people believe a bunch of different things about Jesus and who He was. While we can’t cover all of who Jesus is here, we want to give a few of the basic beliefs we have in Jesus.
Jesus lived for you.
In the Bible a lot of people are familiar with this verse. John 3:16 says: “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” The reason that Jesus came to this world was for us.
We were created to have fellowship with God, but because of our sin, we have been separated from God. And that separation eventually leads us all to death. Romans 6:23 says: For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Because we have sinned we deserve death. That may be difficult to take, but that is because most of us struggle with just how bad sin really is.
He Died in Our Place
The good news about Jesus is that He died for our sins in our place. “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”(Romans 5:8). What is amazing is that He didn’t wait for us to clean up and become acceptable to Him. He died for us while we were still sinners. That is an amazing thought!
But it didn’t end there. Jesus didn’t remain dead. He defeated death once and for all by rising from the dead. . . . but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. (2 Timothy 2:10) Since Jesus rose from the dead, we have hope that we too will have life after death.
He Is the Only Way to God
Jesus claimed that He is the only way to God. “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through me.”(John 14:6). The only way to be made right with God and receive eternal life is through Jesus. There is no other way.
